A number of publications were recently given the opportunity to get their hands on Street Fighter 5. Among the group was IGN's own Vince Ingenito -- the site's resident fighting game expert.
During his time with Capcom's next massive fighting title, Vince managed to gather in-depth impressions, analyzing the many nuances and largest additions made in the game's current build.
In Capcom's Street Fighter 5 Battle System trailer, we learned that V-Skills are techniques activated by pressing MP+MK and are unique for each fighter on the roster. While V-Skills don't require V-Gauge to perform, we now know that they actually build the gauge up when used successfully.
Previously, we suspected only Ryu's V-Skill of building V-Gauge. Fighters in Street Fighter 5 also have different V-Gauge amounts, as we see M. Bison has 3 stocks and the rest of the currently announced characters have only 2.
IGN's write up also notes that hard knockdowns are rare now. In SF5, hard knockdowns are only caused by throws (except Ryu's backthrow) and Critical Arts.
In Capcom's current tournament circuit fighter, Ultra Street Fighter 4, hard knockdowns can be achieved by way of sweep, command throws, and much more. These elongated knockdowns are a main component in USF4's battle plan, with the majority of players aiming for the knockdown so that they can impose their will while the opponent is grounded.
With faster wake ups and less hard knockdowns, Street Fighter 5's okizeme game is going to be quite different from its predecessor.
Another interesting detail about SF5 is the higher damage output. Attacks seemingly hurt more, with Dragon Punches stealing large chunks of health when they connect. Target combos are also more prevalent, and with attacks now hitting harder these chain combos may have more utility in battle.
